The Journey Home

A Fictional Non-Fiction in a Fiction

The Marylebone Intersection (TMI), the first in the series of Two Truths and a Spy (2T1S) novels, initially centers around a mysterious "best-selling book" called The Journey Home

In the context of 2T1S series (which is obviously fictional), The Journey Home is a non-fiction chronicle, described in the Prologue as "a collection of personal stories that followed wounded soldiers from the battlefields in Iraq, through the battlefield in their minds, to the battlefield of adapting to life as a civilian," and an "unapologetic exposure of the soldier's post-war struggle" which dealt with PTSD head-on at a time when it was still risky to admit or disclose.

Within the TMI timeline, The Journey Home was published in late 2007, just in time for a pre-Christmas release. The journey of the soldiers who were chronicled in the book span the early part of the War in Iraq from 2002 to 2006.

It should go without saying that The Journey Home is merely a fictional construct of the 2T1S storyline. It is not intended to represent any other author's work -- neither similarly named, nor similar in nature and named differently. It's a fiction.

The initial storyline and framework came to me in 2014 while on a six-month sabbatical from the corporate rat-race, but it wasn't until 2019 that I felt a strong urging to put pen to paper (figuratively speaking) and get this story out to a broader audience than my own head. Before I started incorporating The Journey Home title as a key plot point in TMI, I had done cursory research for the title and felt comfortable that there was such a wide range of applications of that title (books, movies, TV shows, ministries, rehab centers) that there shouldn't be any infringement issues or any obvious, but erroneous, association with a specific work.

As an ironic twist fate, or perhaps just serendipity, between the time the TMI seed was in hand (2014) and the time I decided to plant it, water it, and see what happens (2019) a nonprofit organization called The Journey Home Project was formed (2015) that specifically addresses the exact issues highlighted in the fictional chronicle The Journey Home of the 2T1S series, but hadn't discovered it until the TMI novel was near completion (2020).

While there was no knowledge, no association, no inspiration, and no intention to draw a relationship between the two, I believe the context around the fictional non-fiction chronicle The Journey Home in 2T1S stands in unity with The Journey Home Project and am happy to give them a shoutout for the important mission they are trying to serve of identifying organizations and programs that can best serve our soldiers and families in their journey to reintegrate back to civilian life, on life’s terms.
